  • Recommendations for Mount Kilimanjaro
  • Do not make the same mistakes. Kilimanjaro was my first big mountain in 2017.. I didn’t know anything about high altitude expeditions. But we live and we learn! 1. Wear proper mountain sunglasses at least category 3. Better the ones that change categories for all weather. Can’t believe I wore my Ray Bans to almost 6000m! 2. You don’t need insulated ski pants. Yes it is cold on the summit push but you will boil on the way down. It’s better to have a layering system for legs too- base layer + down or fleece pants + gore tex trousers that you can ventilate. 3. Cotton t shirts are a big no no! You will sweat, then you will get cold.. it’s much better to wear technical t shirts or merino ones (they don’t smell as much!) 4. Do invest in comfortable camp booties! Your feet will love you for it and they are so much warmer and comfortable than woollen socks and trainers. 5. Have a proper and easily accessible hydration system. These days I prefer a camelbak system for easy access. But if you prefer a bottle - make sure it’s within an easy reach. Staying well hydrated at high altitude is extremely important. A thermos is also a great idea for when it gets cold. 6. No need for synthetic lingerie or padded bras on an expedition. My advice is to invest in good quality merino underwear. While we make mistakes some times, we also make awesome decisions! Such as celebrating your birthday on a summit and creating yourself a little spa moment in the base camp. Which of these mistakes have you also made? Follow me for more mountaineering.
